Taylor Swift Lover-Inspired Wedding at The Inn at Elon | Raleigh Wedding Photographer
As a Raleigh, NC wedding photographer, I was beyond excited to capture Chris and Kendal’s special day – a celebration wholeheartedly inspired by Taylor Swift’s Lover album. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the whimsical, romantic vibe they’d planned. Soft pastel colors, heart-themed details, and personal touches were everywhere, creating a dreamy atmosphere. They brought on Adoria Events as their planner, and she ensured that the Lover-inspired vision was executed flawlessly – every detail, from the coordinating color palette to the stationery and décor, worked together beautifully. The result was a wedding that felt like a Taylor Swift love story come to life, right here in North Carolina.
Getting Ready
Kendal shares a sweet moment with her beloved cat while getting ready on the morning of her wedding. The bridal suite at The Inn at Elon was filled with laughter and anticipation as Kendal and her bridesmaids prepared for the day. Kendal even spent a few quiet minutes snuggling her fluffy, long-haired cat – a calming, adorable presence amid the hustle of hair and makeup. The Lover album’s influence was present from the start; the bridesmaids sipped on rosé champagne and had Taylor Swift’s music playing softly in the background, keeping everyone’s spirits high. Kendal slipped into her gorgeous off-shoulder lace gown with delicate floral embroidery and sparkles (so fitting for a Lover-themed day), and there wasn’t a dry eye when her mom finished buttoning up the back. She looked absolutely stunning, glowing with happiness and ready to meet her groom.
Chris adjusts his bow tie as he gets ready, looking sharp and excited to see his bride. In another room, Chris and his groomsmen were getting ready with equal parts nerves and excitement. Chris donned a classic black tuxedo and bow tie, the picture of timeless elegance. His guys helped with final touches – straightening jackets, fixing pocket squares – all while joking around to keep the mood light. You could tell Chris was anxious to see Kendal; he took a quiet moment by the window to adjust his bow tie and gather his thoughts. Before heading to the ceremony, he read a short heartfelt note from Kendal (accompanied by a gift she’d arranged for him that morning), which brought the biggest smile to his face. With that, this sweet groom was ready to go meet his bride and start the festivities!
Ceremony
The couple’s ceremony space at the Numen Lumen Pavilion was decorated with lush pink florals and bathed in beautiful light. The ceremony took place at The Inn at Elon, on the very campus where Chris and Kendal first met, giving the moment an extra-special significance. The venue’s chapel (the Numen Lumen Pavilion at Elon University) was bright and airy, with tall arched windows letting in natural light. Down the aisle, Blossom and Bone Florals had lined the chairs with gorgeous arrangements of blush pink and soft coral flowers, echoing the dreamy pastel palette of the Lover album. When Kendal began her walk down the aisle, arm-in-arm with her dad, Chris’s face lit up – it was clear he was fighting back happy tears as he saw his beautiful bride. The atmosphere was so full of love and emotion. Under the soft glow of string musicians playing (yes, a Taylor Swift love song made it into the prelude music!), they exchanged vows and rings. Their ceremony was personal and heartfelt, blending traditional vows with a few inside jokes and joyful smiles that had everyone cheering by the end of the “I do’s.”
Instead of a traditional program, the couple gave guests a custom “Newlywed Post” newspaper announcing their marriage and wedding party. One of the most delightful details from the ceremony was the wedding program itself – Chris and Kendal, with the help of Let’s Revel Design Studio, created a faux newspaper called The Newlywed Post announcing “Kendal & Christopher Are Getting Married!” It was such a creative nod to their personality and had fun info about their wedding party and love story for guests to read before the ceremony began. This kind of personal touch, along with other beautifully designed paper details (from the welcome sign to seating cards), really tied together the theme and told their story. Every element felt cohesive and true to them. Huge credit goes to their planner Adoria Events for making sure the Lover-inspired colors and style flowed through the day – from the ceremony florals to the stationery, everything was coordinated in dreamy pinks, blues, and iridescent accents. The ceremony ended with a joyful kiss and an elated walk up the aisle as husband and wife, to the strains of an acoustic version of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” playing softly in the background. It was a picture-perfect moment that gave everyone goosebumps.
The Formal Portraits
Newlyweds Chris and Kendal share a kiss under a charming ivy-covered archway on Elon’s campus – a picture-perfect portrait to celebrate their marriage. After the ceremony, we strolled around Elon University’s beautiful campus for portraits of the newlyweds. This part of the day was especially meaningful because the couple first met here years ago, and now we were capturing their first moments as husband and wife in the same place – talk about coming full circle! The fall scenery was lovely: green lawns and stately brick architecture with just a hint of autumn colors coming through. Under a historic ivy-covered arch (a favorite spot on campus), Chris and Kendal kissed and laughed together, totally in their own world. I loved how Kendal’s long veil and the vibrant bouquet popped against the lush greenery and brick – the photos looked like something out of a storybook. We also visited a quiet fountain courtyard and the pathways they used to walk as students, letting them soak in a few peaceful moments together. The resulting portraits were full of genuine joy and that Lover-esque whimsy – twirling, dipping, and all the sweet candid glances in between. You can truly feel their love in each photo, and I know these images will be treasured for years to come.
Reception & Formalities
As the sun set, everyone moved to the reception hall at The Inn at Elon, which had been transformed into an enchanting, Lover-inspired wonderland. The Prettiest Pieces rentals and the talented team at Adoria Events decked out the space with elegant decor: there were soft pink linens, gold-accented candle holders, and even a cozy lounge area for guests to relax in. Each table had centerpieces overflowing with roses, peonies, and baby’s breath courtesy of Blossom and Bone Florals – all in blush, ivory, and pops of pastel blue – creating a romantic glow in the room. The newlyweds made a grand entrance to huge applause and went straight into their first dance. Of course, they chose Taylor Swift’s “Lover” for that special moment! As Chris twirled Kendal around the dance floor, singing the words to her, guests looked on and there were more than a few happy tears. It felt like a scene from a movie, truly.
During dinner, we heard some fantastic toasts. The Maid of Honor and Best Man delivered speeches that were equal parts heartfelt and hilarious – sharing stories from college and early dating that had everyone laughing one minute and wiping tears the next. You could tell how much love everyone has for these two. After the toasts, the couple cut into their wedding cake by Artsy Cakesy, which was a beautiful four-tier creation adorned with cascading sugar flowers in the same pink and pastel tones of their theme. (And yes, it tasted as amazing as it looked!) Another unique touch was the audio guestbook they set up: an old-fashioned telephone from After the Tone sat on a table, inviting guests to leave voice messages for the bride and groom throughout the night. How fun is that? Friends and family loved it – by the end of the evening, the phone was filled with sweet, tear-jerking messages and a few hilarious inside jokes for the newlyweds to listen to later. Little surprises like that made the reception even more memorable and personal.
Open Dancing
Once the formalities were done, it was time to let loose – and this crowd was READY to dance! High Impact Entertainment (the DJ) did an awesome job keeping the energy high and the dance floor full all night long. They played everything from classic throwbacks to the couple’s favorite pop hits. And since no Taylor Swift-inspired wedding would be complete without some of her music, the DJ sprinkled in plenty of T-Swift bops throughout the playlist. The moment “Shake It Off” came on, the entire room absolutely erupted – guests of all ages were jumping, twirling, and singing at the top of their lungs. I found myself grinning behind the camera the whole time, enjoying every second of capturing those fun candid shots – crazy dance moves, tight hugs on the dance floor, and the bride rocking out with her college friends like no time had passed. This group’s energy was infectious, and it was clear how loved Chris and Kendal are by their friends and family.
Streamer Exit Finale
All great nights must come to an end, but this one ended with quite the bang (of confetti streamers, that is!). Instead of a traditional sparkler send-off, Chris and Kendal opted for a celebratory streamer exit, and it was so on-brand for their colorful wedding day. Just past 10 PM, guests lined up outside the venue holding handfuls of bright pink and white streamers and poppers. The newlyweds shared one last kiss on the dance floor and then dashed out hand-in-hand. As they ran through the exit line, everyone cheered and launched a flurry of paper streamers into the air. The night sky was suddenly filled with streaks of pastel ribbon fluttering around the happy couple – it was absolutely magical! Kendal’s smile was as radiant as ever, and Chris gave a triumphant fist pump as they made it to the end of the line amid laughter and applause. The streamer exit was not only a safer alternative to sparklers, but it also perfectly matched the fun, vibrant Lover theme of the day.
As I watched them dip into one final kiss under a cascade of pink and iridescent ribbons, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with happiness for these two. Capturing their day was an honor and a reminder of why I love what I do. Chris and Kendal’s wedding was the perfect blend of personal, sentimental, and flat-out fun – truly a reflection of who they are as a couple. Congratulations, Chris and Kendal! May your life together be as whimsical and full of love as the incredible day you created. This Raleigh wedding photographer is certainly going to be humming Taylor Swift songs for weeks to come, reminiscing about your unforgettable “Lover”-inspired celebration. Cheers to the newlyweds and their happily ever after!
