A Downtown Raleigh Love Story


The day began at two locations just a short walk apart in downtown Raleigh. While Emmy got ready at Whiskey Kitchen with her mom, future mother-in-law, and close girlfriends, Justin prepared for the day at the Marriott City Center. This setup allowed us to capture both of their getting-ready experiences—those quiet, anticipatory moments before everything changes.

Emmy wanted the full experience documented: her dress hanging beautifully, the invitation details, all those small touches that tell the complete story of a wedding day. We started with detail shots at 1:30pm, giving us plenty of time to work without feeling rushed.

The First Look That Started It All


At 3:50pm, Justin walked from the Marriott to Whiskey Kitchen for their first look. We found a beautiful spot nearby (after securing the necessary permit for Nash Square Park), and the moment was everything a first look should be—private, emotional, and completely theirs.

What followed was pure magic: an unhurried portrait session where we could focus entirely on the two of them. Without the time constraints of a large bridal party, we captured couple portraits that felt natural and authentic. This is what I love about intimate weddings—the breathing room to create images that truly reflect who you are as a couple.

Family Matters


By 4:15pm, their immediate family joined us for portraits. With relatively small families on both sides—just siblings, parents, and grandparents—we moved through these groupings smoothly and intentionally. Everyone felt included and celebrated, which aligns perfectly with my extended care philosophy: every person at your wedding matters, and everyone deserves to feel seen.

The Ceremony & Celebration


At 5:30pm, as the early autumn light started to soften, Emmy and Justin exchanged vows in front of their closest people. The ceremony was personal and intimate, exactly what they'd envisioned.

Cocktail hour brought a smart timeline decision: we used the first 15 minutes for extended family photos, then Emmy and Justin were free to actually enjoy cocktail hour with their guests. Too often, couples miss this part of their own celebration. Not these two.

At 10:20pm, we wrapped their celebration with a sparkler send-off—the perfect punctuation to an intimate, intentional day.
